On December 10th, 2006, my son David Spivey, 23, died from an overdose of methadone. My world stopped revolving at that point and I wondered how could this happen. I have no idea how he even came in contact with this drug. I searched for answers to all the questions that I, as well as my other two sons, Chris, 20 and Josh, 19 were having. As I began to research this drug I have found that it is very unstable even in a controlled environment. I looked for a support group in the Jacksonville , Florida area but really couldn’t find people that knew how I felt. I needed to talk to people that knew how this awful thing felt. I found the HARMD (Helping America Reduce Methadone Deaths) website. That was a saving grace. These were people that understood the pain and emptiness that my family was feeling. They had been through it too. But as I continued to read the stories on the website and see the pictures it all became very clear. When will this stop? How many children do we have to lose before something is done? We as parents have tried to protect our children all their lives and now a dollar bill has become more important than saving lives. My only wish is for this drug to be taken off of the market where no one will ever have to endure the pain that my family and all the other HARMD families have gone through.

If David can save one life……….to God be the glory. Son, we miss you every day!
