In Loving Memory of John Box 10/07/1988 ~ 05/31/2007

My son took a loritab and a methadone together and never woke up. He died at home. He had been prescribed loritabs, but not the methadone. I have no idea where those came from. I had left for work and being he had graduated I had let him sleep in that morning. I got a phone call from his buddy around 8 a.m. telling me some thing was wrong and he couldn't wake him up. I drove home and called 911, but they said he had died some time around 3a.m. that morning. I was a sleep in the other room and didn't have a clue. I always thought that a mother was supposed to know when their child was in trouble. He had gotten sick and choked on his vomit. I found him laying on his back. I will never forget that site as long as I live. It is a nightmare that I relive almost daily. If there is anyway to keep this from happening to another family I wish I knew what it was. He had been one of Jordan Grooves friends, though they went to rival schools. Mitchell, and Bedford. My son was very athletic and played football and ran track. He had just graduated high school and was ready to begin the rest of his life. I know that because of methadone my life died right along with Johns. I was a single mom and it had been just John and I for a long time. So he was my whole life. He was so popular with his friends that they started a scholarship in his name and gave away a $500.00 football and a $500.00 track scholarship this past May 2008.
